Sina Tech News, on the afternoon of December 23rd, MediaTek released the Dimensity 8400 5G all-big-core agent AI chip. The Dimensity 8400 inherits many advanced technologies from the Dimensity flagship chips. It adopts an all-big-core architecture design and integrates MediaTek’s flagship AI processor NPU 880, providing the ability to handle high-speed generative AI tasks.

In addition, the excellent generative AI and agent AI capabilities of the Dimensity 8400 will help terminal devices bring the cutting-edge AI technologies to a wider audience.”
The all-big-core CPU of the Dimensity 8400 contains 8 Arm Cortex-A725 big cores with a maximum main frequency of up to 3.25 GHz. The multi-core performance of the CPU has increased by 41% compared to the previous-generation chip. With the help of energy efficiency regulation technology, the multi-core power consumption of the Dimensity 8400 CPU has decreased by 44% compared to the previous generation, helping terminal devices to have a longer battery life.
The Dimensity 8400 is equipped with the Arm Mali-G720 GPU. The peak performance of the GPU has increased by 24% compared to the previous-generation chip, and the power consumption has decreased by 42%. In addition, the Dimensity 8400 also supports frame insertion technology and MediaTek’s HyperEngine, which can bring smoother game graphics and an experience of stable frames with low power consumption.
The Dimensity 8400 integrates MediaTek’s flagship AI processor NPU 880. The combination of the all-big-core CPU and the NPU for collaborative computing provides the ability to handle high-speed generative AI tasks. It supports the world’s mainstream large language models (LLMs), small language models (SLMs), and multi-modal large models (LMMs), and can provide users with terminal-side generative AI innovative experiences such as AI translation, rewriting, contextually intelligent replies, call summaries, and multimedia content generation.
The Dimensity 8400 is also equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity Agentic AI Engine, which first debuted in the Dimensity 9400 flagship chip. It empowers developers to create agent AI applications and reconstructs traditional AI applications into more advanced agent AI applications.
The Dimensity 8400 is equipped with the MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP image processor. It has a built-in QPD zoom hardware engine that can capture more light, making focusing faster and more accurate, and supports shooting images with higher resolutions. In addition, the Dimensity 8400 also supports the Dimensity full-focus HDR technology, allowing video creators to use different focal lengths to shoot works with different shot sizes.
The features of MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 also include: being equipped with a 5G-A modem, supporting three-carrier aggregation (3CC-CA), with a network downstream transmission rate of up to 5.17 Gbps; supporting a network quality monitoring system that can monitor the connection quality of the game network in real time, intelligently selecting 5G or Wi-Fi networks to achieve higher network speeds with lower power consumption; and supporting 144Hz WQHD+ displays and folding dual-screen devices.
